ando ouvindo também o disco do Mars Volta, "De-Loused in the Comatorium".
tem arranjos bem impressionantes, criativos.
as músicas tem força, energia, com vários momentos experimentais interessantes.

When Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler silenced At the Drive-In in the midst of its popular emergence, there was no question that the two artists would return with new music as exciting as their previous band. However, there was plenty of discussion in corners and over drinks about what, exactly, that music would sound like. It was clear that much more was happening under those Afros than biting, post-hardcore anthemics laced with psychedelia. In 2002, Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler returned with the single "Tremulant," attributed to their new project, the Mars Volta. Its shifting soundscapes were certainly a hint, but with the Mars Volta's ambitious De-Loused in the Comatorium, it's clear the ATDI expats' mushroom-headed hairstyles hide bulging brains that pulsate with ideas, influences, and a fever-pitch desire to take music forward, even if they're occasionally led too far afield for the audience to follow. A concept album of sorts, Comatorium is a swirling ten-song cycle inspired by Julio Venegas, a childhood friend of the band who followed his fearlessness to a self-inflicted end. While the storyline is bewilderingly obtuse, it nevertheless unifies the album's wildly shifting sounds. Thrumming, Led Zeppelin-inspired pounding gives way to the thump of a free jazz bass punctuated with blasts of guitar squelch in "Drunkship of Lanterns." Meanwhile, the windswept landscape of "Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)" unfolds over seven minutes, revealing remnants of ATDI, fissures of glittering, confessional pop, and layer upon sedimentary layer of a shrieking Bixler, harmonizing with himself over vintage 1970s organ. All of this gives way to a gentle landslide of an outro, where an expressive guitar solo that would make Carlos Santana scratch his head threads its way between brooding bass. Later, Red Hot Chili Peppers secret weapon John Frusciante stops by for "Cicatriz ESP," which undergoes a full stop after its relatively straightforward (for these guys, anyway) beginning, reentering the atmosphere to the fiery strains of at least three concurrently soloing guitarists. Though the brief-by-comparison ATDI-ish "Inertiatic ESP" acts as an opposite to the epic "Cicatriz ESP," the band's ardent desire for re-creation is defined in the latter song's shifting folds and faults. But while De-Loused in the Comatorium may well remove the stigma from the prog and art rock forms it suggests, and is certainly a monument to unbridled creativity, it can also be seen as bombastic and indulgent — much like prog has been in the past. Comatorium is exciting, to be sure. But in a way, it avoids answering that old question about the Mars Volta: What will the music sound like? — Johnny Loftus

o que posso falar de novo?
hmmm...
nada muito sensacional.
tô saindo de uma fase bem negra, com muito mais baixos do que altos.
mas pelo menos tô saindo dessa porra finalmente, agora mais fortalecido.

ando ouvindo o novo disco do Ween, "Quebec".
é um disco legal, mas não é sensacional comparado com outros troços que o Ween lançou antes.
o que mais me chateou no disco foi que ele é cheio de baladas tristonhas mais pro final.
é uma seqüência de baladas pouco usual pra um disco gravado pelo Ween.
tem outras músicas que chegam a lembram (um pouco) os áureos tempos de Pure Guava e Chocolate and Cheese, mas nada de muito animador.
é, gurizada... a velhice chega e vai acalmando o ânimo dos seres humanos. os artistas alcançam certa idade e acabam enveredando pra caminhos mais serenos. isso é batata. vai por mim.
exemplos não faltam: Super Furry Animals, Supergrass (apesar do último disco ser bem agitadinho), Cardigans, Ween, Stephen Malkmus, Diego Medina (hahahaha. mas é verdade. cada vez ouço mais coisinhas calminhas. e algumas músicas novas minhas são bem serenas).
acho que isso ocorre porque quando a gente é mais novo ouvimos artistas mais roqueiros, agitadinhos. aí a gente acaba ouvindo tanto esse tipo de som que parte pra outro estilo pra dar uma refrescada na cabeça. mesmo assim, eu ainda prefiro as bandinhas lá-lá-lá agitadinhas do que as bandas deprês, mesmo estando ouvindo artistas mais calminhos ultimamente.

pergunta: How much importance do you place on technique? How much time a day/week would you say you devote to it? Sometimes I feel like I get too fixated on it, and it effects my productivity? Has this ever happened to you, and if so (aside from playing with my own feces) do you have any suggestions that might help ease this brand of anal retention?

resposta: I place a lot of importance on technique. I feel it's priceless to have total control of your instrument in order to make it do what you want it to do. But, yes, it can be a trap sometimes. Many people who practice getting faster and more efficient on their instrument always sound exactly like that.
Fast and efficient. Sometimes I say, who cares? There are other aspects of music to develop: your ears, spontaneity, expression, knowledge away from the instrument, etc. Give yourself a break sometimes. Play music for the pure enjoyment of it. Hold on to that feeling of why you wanted to be a musician in the first place before you had ANY IDEA.

os massa já começam a cogitar a gravação da demo pop 3.
pelo falatório, será nossa demo pop mais demente.
à medida que vamos gravando nossas canções mais pop, vão sobrando as canções menos pop pra serem registradas num acabamento "popular".
então a tendência é cada vez entrar mais podreira nonsense e menos registros açucarados como na demo pop 1.
quem viver, ouvirá.

provavelmente não vai demorar pra gente disponibilizar a demo pop 2 na internet.
a merda só que ela não vai entrar na íntegra, já que muitas vinhetas do cd estão na contagem regressiva de algumas faixas. daí não rola passar as vinhetas pra mp3.
se bem que isso é muito bom pra gente, já que quem quiser ouvir a demo pop 2 na íntegra vai ter que comprar o cd.
